Prior to establishing BenroGroup, LLC, Robert was Director of Annual Giving for 8 years at Whitman-Walker Clinic in Washington, DC.  There he was responsible for fundraising in several categories. He also managed the AIDSWALK DC, and Capitol Pride Festivals. He turned the annual giving program around by increasing revenue and decreasing expenses. He also developed a successful mid-level giving program to enhance the total donor experience at WWC.     

Before working in the non-profit world, Robert had extensive corporate experience. As Director of National Sales at USA TODAY, he managed circulation and advertising divisions in the travel and education industries. During his tenure, USA TODAY became the largest national newspaper in the country. Robert’s team developed and produced the award-winning Travel Today publication. Travel Today was the first program of its kind to offer circulation, advertising, and online services to customers in an interactive, comprehensive package. This project earned the highest award at the Gannet Corporation in 2000. This advertising feature is in the paper’s Friday editions.   

 Prior to USA TODAY, Robert worked in the financial services industry as an investment advisor with Dean Witter and NationsBank. Robert was Vice President/Branch Manager of several Citibank branches in Washington, DC. He also served as a Private Banking Officer in the entertainment industry at City National Bank in Beverly Hills, CA. At Citibank, Robert was a member of the “Model Branch” team, creating a new branch experience for retail bank customers.  

 Robert has been an active volunteer and fundraiser for several healthcare, animal rescue, and social services organizations over the past 20 years. It was his volunteer work that inspired him to leave the corporate sector and establish BenroGroup, LLC, providing for-profit marketing, sales, communications, and management expertise to the non-profit sector, raising money and awareness, and improving processes for non-profits throughout the country.
